PROJECT

The concept for the project in Dulliken, Switzerland, revolves around transforming a somewhat overlooked town into a noticeable landmark for commuters traveling between Zurich and Bern. With its 1960s light industrial building standing mostly vacant, the goal is to breathe new life into the structure. This mainly entails upgrading the building's façade for energy efficiency while creating an auto showroom on the lower level, reserving the upper floors for future use. The key idea is to re-establish Dulliken's presence in people's minds, enhancing its profile and relevance. The façade plays a crucial role in achieving this. It features an insulated panel system with triangular extruded forms, each side of the panels adorned with different colors. When viewed from one direction, the word "Zurich" becomes visible, and from the opposite direction, "Bern" emerges. This design serves as a signpost, a marker, and a beacon for train passengers, showing them the city to which the train is headed, thus making the building a recognizable and memorable location in its own right—somewhere intriguingly in between two major cities.
